Bridge closed on KY 40 in Martin County near Tomahawk
MARTIN COUNTY (April 5, 2017) – Highway District 12 officials closed the bridge a KY 40 in Martin County until further notice. The bridge is at the 6.9 mile marker near the intersection with KY 1184 (Milo Road) about 1.32 miles from Tomahawk.
Shane Allen, D12 Bridge Engineer, said the substructure of the bridge is deteriorated and an inspection determined that the bridge should be closed until repairs can be made. He said that could take several months. In the meantime, traffic can use KY 1884 as a detour.
“We apologize for the inconvenience,” Allen said. “We have been monitoring this bridge frequently. The bridge deck looks fine from the roadway, but the substructure underneath has deteriorated to the point that we just don’t feel it is safe for traffic. Repairs could take a couple of months. As soon as repair work is scheduled, we will let people know.”
